RMI is currently hiring Lead Guides for the 2008 Climbing Season.

Rainier Mountaineering, Inc. (RMI) is one of the oldest and most active guide services in the United States, operating within Mount Rainier National Park, Denali National Park and Preserve, and on all seven continents.

Guiding requires a passion for our clients, for the mountains, and for sharing our mountaineering knowledge and skills in a safe and professional manner. As a guide for RMI, you must be exceptionally patient, possess solid mountaineering skills, and be in top physical condition. RMI Guides are both leaders and hard working team members. As an RMI Guide, you will be required to teach and lead your rope team while also working well with other guides to ensure the safe and successful outcome of your program. The 2008 guide hiring application process is as follows:

* Please complete an application and outdoor/climbing resume and return them to our office. Employment Packet Request

* Once we receive your application and resume, we will review your qualifications and certifications for this job, and notify you if we would like you to attend an interview.

* All applicants must have current Wilderness First Responder (WFR), Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), U.S. Avalanche Level II (or equivalent), and Leave No Trace (LNT) certificates on file with the RMI office prior to beginning work. These requirements are a very minimum, and any certificates above and beyond these minimums will carry additional weight in the hiring process. Examples of additional certifications include the various American Mountain Guide Association certificates.

* RMI will offer a two-day LNT certification course in May 2008 (date to be determined).

* All applicants are required to demonstrate applicable employment documentation at the interview. (i.e., Social Security card and Driver’s License, or Passport, or current work visas).

Whittaker Mountaineering is a full-service outdoor specialty shop located at the base of Mount Rainier in Ashford, Washington. Peter and Erika Whittaker started the store in 1997 to address the needs of both local hikers and mountaineers. The store is located six miles outside Mount Rainier National Park adjacent to Whittaker's Bunkhouse and RMI's BaseCamp and provides retail and rental items to RMI clients.

Retail Sales Person: As part of the position of salesperson, you are responsible for providing strong customer service, maintaining the stores appearance, maintaining sales goals, answering the phones, and stock work. The above information indicates the general nature and level or work to be performed and is not an exhaustive inventory of all duties, responsibilities, and qualifications required for the position. Any knowledge of mountaineering, backpacking, or camping is helpful. Both full-time and part-time positions are available.

Rental Sales Person:
A brief overview of this position includes distributing gear to clients and assisting them with proper wear and fit, preparing baskets with reserved rental items for clients to pick up, maintaining, repairing and cleaning gear as needed, checking gear in after climbs, making any needed changes to reservations, maintaining rental area, light yard work and possible assistance in retail area if needed. This position demands an employee with efficient verbal communication skills who enjoys working with a variety of clients and staff members. Full-time and part-time positions are available.

BaseCamp Bar & Grill:
After a summit climb our clients and guides come down and enjoy a burger or pizza and a beer. We are looking for a mature and congenial person to help in our bar and grill.
