Cause Oriented Climbs on Mount Rainier Rainier Mountaineering, Inc. is proud to partner with the following organizations as they climb Mount Rainier to raise funds and promote awareness for very worthy causes. American Lung Association: “Climb for Clean Air” Experience one of the classic climbs in North America, while benefiting the American Lung Association. This unforgettable adventure is hosted by Honorary Chairman and world-renowned mountaineer Lou Whittaker. The American Lung Association of Washington started this fundraising climb in 1988, and it has been a hugely popular event for the last nineteen years. So far, the Climb for Clean Air has raised almost nine million dollars for research and education. In the last two years, climbers have raised over $635,000. Washington's National Park Fund Since 1993, Microsoft Corporation has teamed up with the Washington's National Park Fund and RMI for an annual fundraising climb of Mount Rainier. It is the largest annual fundraiser supporting Mount Rainier, Olympic, and North Cascades National Parks, and raised over $920,000 to fund preservation and restoration programs. In the past two years, teams have raised over $150,000 to fund priority programs in these parks. The climb is also supported with training / conditioning hikes and fundraising tips. Big City Mountaineers Summit For Someone is a benefit climb series supporting the at-risk teens of Big City Mountaineers (BCM). BCM provides urban teenage youth in need of positive adult mentoring with challenging, safe outdoor experiences designed to build self-esteem and positively impact their beliefs about themselves and others. They are the country's leading volunteer organization devoted to providing significant mentoring during wilderness trips, for urban teens participating in existing youth development programs. Save Our Wild Salmon This is the fourth annual Summit for Salmon climb of Mount Rainier, benefiting efforts to restore wild salmon to the Columbia and Snake Rivers. Funds raised through the climb are donated to the Save Our Wild Salmon Coalition, a nationwide network working to restore abundant, harvestable wild salmon runs in the Columbia Basin.
