Federico Campanini

Federico

Federico "el Fede" was born in Mendoza, Argentina, near the Andes Mountains. Federico started climbing seriously after college and two years later he got his mountain guide certification in Argentina. Since then his passion for mountains, climbing and travel took him to different adventures and places in South America, such as Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Patagonia and of course his home land of Argentina. Federico moved to Utah in May 2006 and he has been climbing and skiing in the United States since then.

Fede's friends and family were saddened to learn that he had lost his life on January 8, 2009, while guiding one of his own international groups in his homeland of Argentina. Fede's clients credit him with saving their lives during the storm which ultimately took his life.

Federico will be remembered for his skill, strength and competence as a guide, as well as his gentle personality, unfailing good humor and friendly, selfless nature. He will be missed.

On August 23, 2009, Fede's wife, Amber Christensen, as well as friends, colleagues and members of the climbing community, will climb Mt. Rainier as a tribute to Federico. In addition to honoring Federico’s memory, the purpose of the climb is to promote the recently established foundation dedicated to the memory and spirit of Federico- the "El Fede" Campanini Foundation.
