Joel Kauffman
Joel’s passion for climbing has led him on many exploits to
the rock and ice venues of the Western U.S. Alpine regions especially inspire
and influence him. During the spring of 2005 Joel and partner spent 20 days
attempting and repeating routes in the Ruth Gorge, Alaska. The experiences and
lessons learned on this trip were invaluable. In the international realm, Joel
has climbed in the Italian Dolomites and Canada, as well as traveled to Mexico,
Dominican Republic, Switzerland, and Austria. He began working for RMI in 2005.
He was promoted to senior guide after two seasons on Rainier and is looking
forward to guiding on Denali this spring. Joel attended the University of
Montana, Missoula where he received a B.A. in Biology with an emphasis on
Ecology (2004) as well as an education in climbing to be had in the state that
literally means “mountainous.”
