Island Peak (20,305’) ![]() Rainier Mountaineering, Inc. (RMI) is excited to offer a fully supported ascent of Island Peak combined with an Everest Base Camp Trek in the spring of 2008. The expedition will be led by tenured RMI guide and Everest veteran Casey Grom. Rainier Mountaineering, Inc. lays the groundwork for your Island Peak Expedition by merging our trusted guiding services with the outfitting expertise of International Mountain Guides (IMG). This expedition is a great first Himalayan experience and a perfect “next step” after learning the ropes on Mount Rainier. Island Peak consists of moderate snow and ice climbing, a gradual ascent to over 20,000’, and one of the most renowned treks in the world, taking you through the heart of the Khumbu region of Nepal. Our expedition is a fully guided ascent with a high guide to climber ratio intended to ensure our goals of safety, success, and fun. When you weigh your Everest choices, consider the many advantages in experience, safety, and comfort of an RMI/IMG trip. EXPERIENCE Rainier Mountaineering, Inc., one of America’s oldest and most-trusted guide services, is the largest guide service on Mount Rainier and Mount McKinley, and leads guided climbs and treks around the globe. International Mountain Guides is recognized as a world leader in providing logistics and infrastructure on Himalayan expeditions. SAFETY An experienced team of RMI guides and Sherpas focus on getting people to the top without compromising safety. Comprehensive medical kits, medical oxygen, and satellite phones are carried throughout the climb. Everest Base Camp is equipped with more advanced communication and medical gear. COMFORT RMI, in conjunction with IMG, provides the highest quality food and facilities for keeping our spirits elevated and health in order. Professional, experienced cooks adhere to high hygiene standards. We supply fresh vegetables and a diverse menu. Hot showers at BC are also provided. If it has a beneficial effect on morale, then we have thought about it, right down to our private toilet tent. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE The Island Peak Climb takes place on an intermediate route and is open to climbers in great physical condition with an understanding of basic mountaineering techniques. CONCLUSION This Island Peak Climb is a tremendous adventure. If you are interested in climbing in the heart of the Himalayas, we would ask that you consider the above points very carefully. We are offering a high level of service, providing you with top-quality, experienced guides, and have an infrastructure that is entirely geared toward your safety and success. Quite simply, the RMI/IMG team is the best there is.
