Mt Rainier Climbing Programs

This school introduces a number of skills, from the simplest techniques of efficient mountain travel (rest-stepping and pressure breathing) through cramponing, roped travel, and ice axe arrest practices.

Our one-day introduction to crevasse rescue techniques focuses on preparing climbers for glacier travel. Highly experienced and talented guides facilitate your learning of the key skills needed for team- and self-rescue.

This climb is ideal for first time mountaineers, as well as experienced climbers who are in great physical condition. Mountaineering skills learned during Days One and Two will prepare climbers to safely attempt an ascent of Mt. Rainier with a guide leading their rope.

The Five Day Summit Climb is identical to our Four Day program, with an extra day and night at Camp Muir. This allows additional time on the mountain for glacier travel, practice of basic mountaineering techniques and acclimatization.

Our Five Day Emmons Climb is an intermediate route ideal for climbers in great physical condition with an understanding of basic mountaineering techniques.

The Kautz route ascends a classic line on the south side of Mt. Rainier and is a great adventure for climbers ready for a more technical climb.

The sharp crest of Liberty Ridge slashes through the enormity of Mt. Rainier's incredible north face. Rising out of the Carbon Glacier, climbing on the ridge is physically and technically demanding for most of its nearly 5,000 feet.

We will learn the essential skills for climbing bigger mountains while basing out of Camp Muir for five days. A summit attempt will be made during the seminar. This is a great trip for either experienced climbers or novices interested in developing their mountaineering skills.

The goal of this seminar is to build a solid mountaineering foundation for climbers while making a summit attempt on a classic Mt. Rainier route. This is the perfect trip for climbers looking to develop their mountaineering skills in pursuit of bigger peaks.

Throughout this seminar we will learn and practice various mountaineering skills oriented toward cold weather and high altitude expedition climbing. A summit attempt will be made at some time during the week if conditions are suitable.

This program teaches a wide variety of foundational skills such as tour planning, avalanche awareness, terrain evaluation, route selection, individual skiing techniques and group travel techniques.

This course is for those with previous ski touring experience who would like to gain safe access to mountaineering terrain on skis.
