Mount Rainier is one of the world's premier locations for backcountry skiing and ski mountaineering. Our world record snowfalls, huge vertical relief, and wide variety of easy, moderate, and advanced terrain make Mt. Rainier the ideal classroom for alpine ski touring and ski mountaineering.
RMI offers programs for skiers new to the sport of backcountry skiing interested in learning the skills to go beyond the Ski Resort as well as opportunities for experienced backcountry skiers ready to combine skiing and mountaineering, learning the technical skills to navigate mountain terrain on skis.
Solid intermediate or advance skiing skills - the ability to comfortably ski ungroomed terrain in ski areas - is needed to navigate Mt. Rainier's terrain.
