Jason Thompson, Mountain Guide, RMI Expeditions
Jason Thompson is a native of western Washington. Backpacking trips at an early age in Washington's Olympic mountains planted the seed of being outdoors. A move to Bozeman, Montana, to attend MSU and study photography led to combining his passions of photography and climbing. Jason began guiding nine years ago in the BC Coast Range and has been guiding for RMI since 2005. Leading trips for RMI in Alaska and in Washington, 11 expeditions to Denali, Kahiltna seminars and 120+ summits on Mt. Rainier, and Mt. Shuksan. Bozeman, Montana, is home for Jason where he has spent the past seven seasons ski patrolling and working in the snow safety department at Big Sky Montana.
Photography and guiding have given Jason opportunities to travel to many parts of the world spending 200+ days a year on skis and in the alpine. Climbing and ski mountaineering objectives all throughout the Western US, Alaska, Canadian Rockies, the Coast Range of BC, and Chamonix, France. In 2008 Jason, along with fellow RMI guides Tyler Jones and Seth Waterfall, were awarded a Hans Saari Memorial ski exploration grant for an expedition to the Republic of Georgia in the Svaneti Region where many first descents were accomplished on 17,000 foot Mt. Shkhara. Europe's 5th highest peak. Jason enjoys exploring parts of the world and other cultures that are remote and unique. Working with professional athletes from behind the lens gives Jason the opportunity to capture, in a creative way, the passions and progressions of others. Guiding gives Jason the chance to share his love of the outdoors and to help plant the seed of adventure for others.
"Everyday is a good day, whether its a ski run down the Grand Teton or a climb up Devils Tower, or teaching skills to others to achieve there own dreams or giving slide shows on adventures."
