Trail running, rock climbing, ski mountaineering, desert and swiftwater canyoneering, road biking, ice climbing, packrafting, cleaning and organizing, and catching up on emails.
Calvin grew up in Salt Lake City, surrounded by the Wasatch Mountains. During high school cross-country running, he developed an appreciation for endurance and exploration. Inspired by local athletes and guides, he pursued a self-designed degree in International Outdoor Leadership at the University of Utah.
With years of experience leading outdoor adventures, Calvin has guided backcountry skiing in the Wasatch Mountains, rock climbing in Southern Utah, canyoneering in Escalante, and helicopter skiing in the Ruby Mountains. His guiding experience extends internationally to Taiwan and Honduras, reflecting his belief that recreation is the perfect excuse to travel.
Calvin lives for the weird adventures…going to the unorthodox places on the map. Above all, he values the people who make each journey memorable.
It doesn’t happen on every climb, but the most rewarding part of my job is coaching climbers to push beyond what they thought they were capable of in demanding mountain environments. I’m always energized by watching people dig deep and achieve goals they’ve worked toward for a long time—especially when it comes on a second, third, or even fourth attempt at a particular mountain.
I guide year round, but on my days off I like to spend more time in the mountains, canyons, or rivers with my friends.
I hope RMI climbers come away with more than just a summit. For me, climbing is about the physical challenge, the excitement of uncertainty, and the shared problem-solving that naturally develops on an expedition in the mountains. Through climbing with RMI Guides, I hope climbers develop an appreciation for thoughtful decision-making, open conversations about risk and trade-offs, and unshakeable memories of times in wild places.

Mountaineering
The Easton Glacier on Mount Baker offers a welcoming introduction to glaciated mountaineering on one of the Pacific Northwest’s most recognizable volcanoes. Approached from the south side of the mountain, the route follows moderately angled glaciers through intricate crevasse fields to a broad summit with expansive views across the Cascade Range.
This three-day program is intentionally structured to balance instruction and experience. A full day of mountaineering training is included to develop foundational skills such as glacier travel, rope team movement, and on-mountain self-care, followed by time applying those skills in real terrain. Mount Baker’s moderate elevation and reliable snow conditions create an ideal learning environment without the added stress of higher altitude objectives.
Designed for climbers in strong physical condition, the Easton Glacier is appropriate for those new to glaciated travel as well as experienced climbers seeking a straightforward ascent of a Northwest classic. The route’s moderate angle, scenic setting, and instructional focus make it a rewarding introduction to alpine climbing and a logical preparatory step toward Mount Rainier and similar peaks.
