Expert is RMI's highest tier — reserved for climbers with a deep expedition history, including prior time above 7,000 to 8,000 meters. These are RMI's most demanding, highest-consequence objectives.

Expert programs are multi-week to two-month expeditions at extreme altitude, often above 8,000 meters and requiring supplemental oxygen — Everest among them. Every climber is individually screened, and prior high-altitude expedition experience plus completion of an Expedition Skills Seminar or equivalent is expected. Mountaineering
An 8,000-meter Himalayan expedition climbing the Northwest Ridge of Shishapangma (26,289'), the only 8,000er entirely in Tibet, with a small team, 1:1 Sherpa support, and supplemental oxygen.

Expert programs are RMI's most demanding objectives — full expedition-length climbs at extreme altitude or in extreme cold, requiring extensive prior mountaineering experience.
A strong track record of Advanced-level objectives, solid expedition self-sufficiency, and comfort with sustained cold-weather, high-altitude conditions over multiple weeks.
Mount Everest and comparably demanding high-altitude objectives — expeditions requiring a weeks-long commitment, supplemental oxygen, and significant technical and physical preparation.
Often two to three weeks or more, accounting for weather delays, acclimatization, and the logistics of remote glacier travel.
Not strictly required, but strongly recommended — RMI guides use prior program history to help assess readiness for these objectives.
Duration, remoteness, and margin for error. Expert objectives leave less room for on-the-fly skill-building — the expectation is that climbers arrive already capable.
