Dylan grew up in Ogden, Utah nestled at the heart of the Wasatch Mountains. He spent much of his youth backpacking across Utah and Montana and as a competitive alpine ski racer. During his time at university, he gravitated away from D1 track and field into mountain sports while beginning a career in research studying watershed science and ecology. He later became a Trip Leader and Backcountry Ski Trainer for his university’s outdoor program where he was introduced to the world of guiding on snow and rock. Dylan has spent the last several years working in the Sierra Nevada’s as an aquatic biologist tech monitoring endangered species in high-alpine environments. He spends his off-season rock climbing, mountain biking, and ski mountaineering while working as a Snow Safety Professional at Powder Mountain Ski Resort in Utah.

Mountaineering
The Mt. Shuksan Fisher Chimneys climb is a three-day alpine ascent of one of the most striking peaks in the North Cascades. Shuksan is not a volcano, and the route reflects that: rather than a snow plod to a crater rim, the climb moves through forest and heather to Lake Ann, then up the Fisher Chimneys themselves — a series of ledges and gullies that demand real rock climbing — to a high camp perched on a narrow ridge.
From camp the route crosses three glaciers before the summit pyramid, an exposed rock finish that is the technical crux of the climb. Teams return to the same high camp for a second night rather than pushing out in the dark, then reverse the full route on the final day.
This is a committing objective for climbers who already move confidently on rock and snow, and who are comfortable with exposure. It asks for efficiency and sound footwork rather than raw endurance, and it delivers a summit that has to be climbed rather than walked up.
