Originally from flatland Wisconsin, Megan fell in love with Yosemite Valley and the Sierras when she moved to California for grad school. While pursuing her PhD in Aerospace Engineering, she filled every spare moment being outside with friends on long trail runs, climbing in the Valley, and on bigger mountaineering trips. During this period, she discovered a passion for helping others grow their connection to the mountains, which led her to organize trips and events with her university’s alpine club, including a trail running festival and programming to make the space more welcoming to women. When she’s not spending time outside, Megan is usually making art, cooking for friends, or scheming up another trip.

Skill Development
The Expedition Skills Seminar – Paradise is an instructional mountaineering program built around a full expedition structure on Mount Rainier’s south side. Climbers ascend the Paradise Glacier while establishing a glacier base camp for three nights before moving up to Camp Muir, creating time and space to practice core mountaineering skills in varied, approachable terrain before transitioning to a summit attempt on the Ingraham Direct or Disappointment Cleaver, depending on conditions.
The program is intentionally paced to prioritize learning through repetition and application. The Paradise Glacier offers diverse snow, ice, and glacier features that allow climbers to practice rope travel, anchor building, crevasse rescue, belaying, and fixed line techniques in a progressive and supportive environment. Instruction is woven directly into daily movement rather than isolated from it.
By the time climbers reach Camp Muir, they are prepared to apply these skills on a major glaciated objective. The Paradise Seminar is well suited for climbers seeking structured instruction and expedition-style experience without the added technical complexity of Rainier’s steeper routes, providing a clear step toward more demanding alpine objectives.
