Simon grew up in southwestern Colorado at the foot of the San Juan mountains to an outdoorsy family. From a young age he started climbing, skiing, running, and exploring the mountains however he could. By the age of 12 he was fully hooked on running through the mountains and has spent most of his free time since then doing that. After graduating high school he went to CU Boulder where he received a BA in Political Science. Since college Simon has lived in the Chamonix, France, California and now Leadville, Colorado climbing mountains to his heart’s desire.
When he is not spending time in the mountains you can find Simon reading a good book, playing board games or spending time with friends. If you ever need someone to play chess with at Camp Muir, let Simon know!

Skill Development
The Expedition Skills Seminar – Muir is a foundational training program for climbers developing core mountaineering skills on Mount Rainier. Based out of the climbers’ hut at Camp Muir, the seminar emphasizes repetition, terrain-based learning, and time spent moving efficiently in an alpine environment. With team equipment staged at camp, climbers spend full days on surrounding glaciers practicing essential skills in realistic, demanding conditions.
The program’s flexible structure allows guides to adapt training objectives and identify an appropriate summit window based on conditions and team readiness. The result is an immersive experience that prioritizes skill development while still working toward a true summit objective, giving climbers both depth of instruction and meaningful time on the mountain.
