Mike Uchal

Mike grew up in upstate New York where he backpacked and skied as a child and began winter mountaineering and ice climbing in high school with his older brother. After graduating from college with a degree in Education, Mike taught middle and high school courses before attending graduate school. During his time off he traveled the country climbing, kayaking, and mountain biking. Mike’s strong passion for the mountains and desire to share them with others, inspired him to guide with RMI Expeditions. When not in the mountains, Mike currently teaches renewable energy courses at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, where he lives eight months out of the year. His breaks from school are spent climbing, running rivers in the Southeast, mountain biking, and skiing.
