Aconcagua: Nugent & Team Have Perfect Weather for Carry to Camp 1

We enjoyed an amazingly perfect day on our first push above Aconcagua Basecamp. Despite the good weather our loads were big and the route up to Camp 1 was quite different than in years past. Lots of penitentes (tall, spiky snow features) made for difficult walking at times and a new route across the glacial remnant below the final scree slopes into camp. Despite these challenges our team remained true to form and moved extremely well ultimately putting in a big cache of gear, food, and fuel at over 16,000'. We are resting/acclimatizing tomorrow in basecamp before we head out on the upper mountain for good. All is well here in Plaza Argentina and the team is looking forward to the coming days. Talk tomorrow, RMI Guide Billy Nugent

Thanks for the updates!  Love reading them!

Doug,

Hey babe!  Addy, Leith and I are thinking of you and praying for you all throughout the day.  We miss you tons, but are having fun here.  Addy had her first exam coaching class today and it went great!  Next one is in 2 weeks.  Leith is doing somersaults and headstands constantly around here.  I’ll look over at any given time and notice his two tiny feet just chillin up in the air.  It’s tiring at times when I ask him to come to me and he takes his sweet time by somersaulting;)  I don’t know where his sudden acrobatic tendencies are coming from, but he’s getting really good at headstands!  He’s even beaten me in a couple of competitions!  Their bball games went really well yesterday, too!  Addy even made a basket!  We celebrated with a donut!

Seahawks spoiler alert:

We were down 31-0 starting the 2nd half.  It was just enough to get our fire burning;)  In true Seahawks form, we came alive in the 3rd and 4th.  It wasn’t quite good enough, but we gave a valiant effort.  Panthers ended up winning 31-24.  Lynch was back, but Cliff Avril got hurt early on and never returned.  Broncos ended up beating the Steelers today, as well.

We hope that each of you are acclimating well and that you’re feeling more capable than ever!  Stay strong and safe!

Hugs to you and Jake.  Go team 4!

Love you tons,
Char, Addy and Leith
