Mt Baker: Successful Single Push to the Summit

We took off from the trailhead last night around 11 pm - the smoke had cleared up North and the stars were incredible! We walked in the darkness for around 5 hours until the light hit us about halfway up the glacier. It was a beautiful morning to summit Mount Baker and now many hours of walking and snacks later we are back at the cars and on our way home with tired but happy legs.

North Cascades: Alpine Seminar Wraps up a Successful Week

RMI Guides Nick Sinapius and Hannah Blum checked in from camp on Mt. Shuksan with an update from an impressive Alpine Seminar week.

Over the course of the seminar, climbers developed essential skills in glacier travel, alpine rock, steep snow and ice, and multi-pitch systems. The team summited Mt. Baker via the Coleman Deming in stormy conditions, then climbed above the smoke on Mt. Shuksan, ascending the Fisher Chimneys to the Southeast Ridge and on to the summit.

With one more day remaining, the group will wrap up a memorable week of learning, challenge, and growth in the mountains. Congratulations to the climbers and guides on a fantastic seminar.

Mt Baker: Hoch & Team Unable to Summit Due to Rainfall

We had a nice sunny hot day for our approach to camp, and were able to get in a full snow school, even getting a walk in on the Easton Glacier. But as happens on Mt Baker sometimes, the forecasted few hours of rain turned into 18 hours in the tents. Still, the group was in high spirits and thankful for the beautiful views and training.

Mt. Baker: Team Summits Via the North Ridge in Great Style

8/1: Just wanted to give you a quick update about our trip to Baker.

All went smooth. Weather was great for the climbing days. Bad weather came in as we where hiking out. All clients reached the summit in good style.

The climb was fun and the ridge is in good condition still. Creavases are starting to open a bit, but still manageable and safe. We had a great time.

Mt Shuksan: Successful Ascent Via North Face

Sunday, July 19 - 9:01pm PST

Today we woke up bright and early and packed our bags for our climbing objective, the North Face of Mount Shuksan. After coffee and some breakfast, we descended the White Salmon Glacier and began climbing up towards the north face. We encountered pitches of 5.6 rock, steep snow, and bits of glacier ice on our ascent. After topping out the north face, we descended back to camp where we enjoyed afternoon naps and a beautiful sunset. Tomorrow, we plan to sleep in and work on some skills!

Saturday, July 18 - 7:15pm PST

We had a wonderful morning that started at the Wake N’ Bakery and ended at the Lower Winnie’s bivouac site. We enjoyed a lovely hike up to Lake Ann that was filled with expansive views of Baker Lake and the west side of Shuksan. The Fisher Chimneys were pleasant, and we enjoyed great climbing conditions up to the White Salmon Glacier.

Tomorrow, we plan to descend the White Salmon Glacier and over to the North Face of Shuksan. After our planned ascent of the North Face, we will plan to continue to the summit before descending back to camp!
