RMI Guide Steve Gately led the Expedition Skills Seminar - Emmons team to the summit of Mt. Rainier this morning. The team topped out at 8:15 a.m. and enjoyed breezy conditions on the summit. The Emmons Seminar descended to Camp Schurman where they will spend their last night on the mountain. We look forward to seeing them in Ashford tomorrow afternoon.
Congratulations climbers!
The Four Day Summit Climb August 14 - 17, 2017 led by RMI Guides Casey Grom & JM Gorum reached the summit of Mt. Rainier around 6:30 am today. The teams enjoyed a bit of time on the crater before starting their descent. They will return to Camp Muir for a short stop before continuing down to Paradise. We look forward to seeing them at Rainier BaseCamp later today.
Congratulations to today's Summit Climb team!
I was a part of the group from NY and I only made it to the Disappointment Cleaver (DC). However I had a great time and learn a lot. JM & Casey were both great leaders and lots of fan to be with. Thank you both .

What a great team and awesome accomplishment! Congrats!
We spent the day cruising for wildlife in a caldera. Ngoronoro Crater didn't disappoint. There was fairly heavy cloud glued to the crater rim in the morning when we were working around the circumference, but as we dropped into the interior, we got under the weather and enjoyed fine visibility. We saw vast quantities of wildlife including herds of wildebeest, cape buffalo and zebra. There were hippos galore and dozens of colorful birds. The big male lion stole the show as he ambled down the road right next to our vehicle. We finished in the forested area and had the luck of observing a large female lion hanging in a tree taking a nap. Life in the bush is good. The team continues to persevere despite the fine dining and very comfortable rooms. More adventures ahead tomorrow!

The Mt. Elbrus North Side expedition is a wrap. As I write, I am sitting in the Amsterdam airport, and the team is in the process of scattering to the winds; some will continue traveling, while others are headed home to family and friends. It's amazing that the trip is already over, as it flew by. We spent yesterday on a walking tour of the best cathedrals, gardens, and palaces of St. Petersburg. The sheer size and scale of St. Isaac's Cathedral was stunning, the luminous mosaics of the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood were fascinating, and the history of the founding of the city and derive during WWII were enlightening. We wandered through the Hermitage, as enthralled with the architecture and ornate rooms as we were with the collection of some of the world's finest art. Degas, Renoir, Michalangelo, Picasso, and so many more were on display. We finished up the trip with a delightful boat tour in the River Nieva, seeing St. Petersburg from the vantage that most in 1800 would have seen it, via the canals. Finally we gathered one last time at the Jerome for a last celebration dinner before we parted.
It's been a fantastic trip, with an smashing bunch of new friends. We had great weather, a perfect summit day, built a hut, and tried to become a bit more worldly along the way. So many thanks to this group of climbers. Mike and I had so much fun, and we look forward to crossing paths in the mountains again soon!

Thanks to the many hours of route work from dedicated guides on Mt. Rainier over the last few days our Five Day Summit Climb team for August 12 - 16 reached the summit of Mt. Rainier this morning around 6 am. RMI Guide Mike King and team spent some time on the top before starting their descent. They will return to Camp Muir and then return to Paradise later today.
Congratulations to today's Summit Climb Team!
RMI Guide Mike Walter checked in with us from Mt. Shuksan. He and his team reached the summit via the Southeast Ridge in 3 1/2 hours. They are back at their high camp and will descend Fisher Chimneys tomorrow as they finish their climb.
Congratulations to the team!
The big payoff starts and the dividends are fabulous. We had a great afternoon at Lake Manyara National Park. We successfully shifted gears from mountain living to wildlife viewing. We were on the road just after 8:30 and a few hours later pulled into the park. We had lunch just inside the gate where we had our first visit with a troop of baboons. They were very interested with our lunch boxes and for good reason, once again Barking Zebra providee us with a fantastic assortment of goodies that fuels the furnace to get us through to our next feast, definitely not starving on this trip. We started the game drive where the roof of our Landcruiser is modified to open up and create great sighting of all the animals which were everywhere. Under an hour drive from the gate puts us at the Plantation Lodge just outside the gate of tomorrow's park. Very, very, very comfortable here. Even if you didn't come down from a big mountain you would feel the same way.

RMI Guide Elias de Andres Martos and team hit the crater rim at 11:15 a.m. via the Kautz Glacier Route. They had 100% success to the summit! Elias reported good conditions, a tired team, and an extremely crevassed Nisqually Glacier.
The Four Day Summit Climb August 12 - 15 led by RMI Guide Geoff Schellens turned around today at 13,300' due to difficult terrain. The team reported a nice day with calm winds. The team will return to Camp Muir and continue their descent to Paradise later today.
Hello, this is Eric Frank. Just giving you a call from Mount Shuksan. Wanted to let everyone who is following along that we are safe and sound back in camp. We had a good day of climbing up on the glacier and the summit pyramid. Unfortunately we were not able to reach the summit. The rain from yesterday kind of lingered late into the evening. There was a big, wet cloud that hung over the glacier that didn't let us get out of camp until mid morning today. But we did climb up the glacier, got to the base of the pyramid, and got to go through a little bit of that terrain, and experience what that climbing is like. We then made the safe call to come back down before things got too late in the day, and we had to come down in the dark. We enjoyed ourselves. We're all happy and doing quite well. Hope everyone out there is doing well, take care.
