Kililmanjaro: Waterfall & Team Enjoy Tarangire National Park

Hello from Kikoti Camp. We have just finished a wonderful evening around the fire pit complete with Maasai dancing and a BBQ dinner. Kikoti is am amazing place to finish our trip. Today we toured Tarangire National Park and it didn't disappoint. We were extremely close to elephants and giraffes and we got lucky and spotted a pride of lions lounging in the shade if a tree. The best thing about Tarangire though us the sheer number of animals. It was pretty much non stop the whole time. The talk at dinner was about how much fun the trip has been and that's because this group has really made it non stop laughs the whole time. RMI Guide Seth Waterfall & Team

Kilimanjaro: Waterfall & Team Enjoy Lake Manyara

Jambo! Today was a great kickoff to safari. We piled our sore bodies into the trucks at 9 am and headed out towards Lake Manyara National Park. We shopped and lunched along the way and at about 1:30 pm we started the game drive. We were treated to lots of monkeys, baboons, elephants, and giraffes amongst other animals. My personal favorite, the African Fish Eagle was out in force as well. We are checked into the Plantation Lodge for the next two nights. It's a real treat to not have to pack a bag in the morning. We are headed to Ngorongoro Crater tomorrow morning so I'll check in again when we get back. RMI Guide Seth Waterfall

Kilimanjaro: Waterfall & Team Are Off the Mountain

Greetings from the Dik Dik Hotel. We are all off the mountain safe and sound. This morning we woke up with the sun just before 7. After some crepes and porridge for breakfast we hit the trail. It was a little slick and muddy from the rain yesterday but everyone was motivated to get down to the trailhead so it didn't slow us down. Once we reached the road it was drizzling so we just jumped in the truck and drove back to the hotel. Now we are taking turns showering, having lunch and packing for safari. Tomorrow morning the second phase of the trip starts, but tonight we are going to celebrate a great time on Kilimanjaro. Here is a summit pic from yesterday. RMI Guide Seth Waterfall

Kilimanjaro: Waterfall & Team Summit!

Jambo! The group is all down at 10,000' at our last camp. The weather was great for our summit push but we walked into a misty cloud above camp. It's drizzling a little as I type this. We started our climb with an 11:30PM wake up call and 12:30AM departure. There wasn't much wind all night but we did get a little chilly. We hit the crater rim just before sunrise and watched the sun come up from just below the summit. After our summit pics the team descended well and we were back in camp before 10:00. Tomorrow we have a few hours of hiking in the morning and then back to the Dik Dik Hotel. RMI Guide Seth Waterfall [Audio from the summit below]

Kilimanjaro: Waterfall & Team at Barafu Camp

Hello from High Camp on Kilimanjaro. We are having great weather on this trip so far. We're hoping it keeps holding for a couple more days. Today was a pretty light day on the trail. We were under three hours moving up from 13,000' to 15,000'. Our plan for the rest of the day is to relax and get ready for the climb. If all goes well we will be near the summit when the sun rises in the morning. Wish us luck! RMI Guide Seth Waterfall

Kilimanjaro: Waterfall & Team Hike to Barranco Camp

Hello from Barranco Camp on Kilimanjaro. We are set up in this beautiful valley with the Giant Senecia trees all around. The crew did great today on our 6.5 hour hike. The day started off cloudy, cold and windy after a little weather system moved in overnight. But by the time we reached our high point at 14,900' the wind was dying and the sun was out. The temperature crept up and up as we descended to camp and it is quite comfortable now. We will relax for the rest of the afternoon and evening and get fueled up for the Barranco Wall tomorrow. Really enjoying reading about your great adventure! Keep safe and take lots of photos, Andrew and Rachel!

Ancient Chinese Proverb: “Even a thousand mile journey begins with just one step.”  Keeping the summit in your sights, take it one step at a time.  Take care all!  Luv Ya Catie and Rachel!  Quite an adventure for a couple of Susquehanna Crusaders who’s origins are the Rock Street Pool in Shamokin.

Kilimanjaro: Waterfall & Team Check in from Shira Camp

Jambo! This is Seth checking in. I finally received my luggage and can now begin to send reports from the mountain. I have to thank the wonderful staff at the Dik Dik hotel for getting my bag delivered to 12,500' on Kilimanjaro. The group is all doing really well. We have had two excellent days on the trek so far. Our camp tonight is at the Shira Plateau which gives us a wonderful view of the summit. The weather has been just fine as well. We had a few drops of rain yesterday but we had already arrived in camp when that started. Everyone is climbing strong. I'll check in again tomorrow. RMI Guide Seth Waterfall
