The Expedition Skills Seminar - Kautz team had a successful week of Alpine Skills Training. Although poor weather kept the team from making a summit attempt, they made the best use of their time on the mountain learning snow ice anchors, crevasse rescue, ice climbing, fixed line travel, belaying and other technical skills needed for future expeditions like Denali or Aconcagua.

RMI Guides Seth Burns and Calvin Jiricko reached the summit of Forbidden Peak yesterday afternoon. The team had a beautiful day climbing in the North Cascades Range! The route to the summit of Forbidden Peak consists of climbing a small glacier below the South Face and then low 5th class rock and 40- to 50- degree snow and ice in the West Ridge Couloir. At the top of the couloir the team cached their glacier gear and don rock shoes for the enjoyable 5.0 to 5.6 rock climbing along the exposed crest to the summit.
The West Ridge of Forbidden is a true alpinist's classic. Congratulations Team!

Thank you Joe, Felipe, Stella, and Calvin, for the amazing experience on Rainier. The mountain was beautiful, the guides, were inspiring, and the group was full of wonderful people. The experience with rope teams and glacier travel was cool, and watching the guides and route setters make decisions on weather and carve out routes was eye opening. Hope to see everyone in the mountains again.

The Five Day Climb May 30 - 3 June led by RMI Guides James Bealer & Tatum Whatford reached the top of Disappointment Cleaver, 12,300', today before deteriorating weather forced them to descend. The team is enroute to Camp Muir. They will spend the night at Camp Muir tonight and descend tomorrow.
Great effort for the team in spite of the awful weather conditions this weekend. Don’t give up hope on a future summit attempt. Took me 3 times before summiting.
