The Four Day Climb, led by RMI Guides Dan May and Stella Johnson, reached the summit of Mt. Rainier at 5:45 a.m. today. Dan reported excellent weather and a great route, allowing the team to remain above the smoky conditions below. The climbers have begun their descent and are currently making their way to Camp Muir, where they will gather their overnight gear before continuing down to Paradise.

The RMI four day climb led by guides Mike King and Ben Ammon made it to the summit of Mt Rainier this morning around 6:50am PST. They reported nice weather. They are on their descent and will be back in Ashford this afternoon.

The Four Day Climb June 13 - 16 led by RMI Guide Sam Marjerison turned around at 12,200' today due to high winds. The teams returned to Camp Muir around 6:30, they enjoyed a bit of a rest and then started their descend from Camp Muir to Paradise around 8:45 am.  They will return to Rainier Base Camp around noon today and complete their program.

RMI climbers, led by Ray Holt, started their trip on the Fourth of July with the goal of climbing Mt. Baker via the Easton Glacier. At 8:00 p.m. on July 5, they achieved that goal and reached the summit of Mt. Baker! Today concludes their trip as they walk out with another Washington volcano summit story to tell.

RMI Guide Avery Stolte and the Four Day Climb August 15 - 18 reached the summit of Mt. Rainier this morning. It is a beauitful day with clear skies and the team enjoyed some time in the summit crater before starting their descent to Camp Muir. Once back at Camp Muir the team will get a quick break before descending the final 4,500' to Paradise.

The Four Day Climb August 2 - 5 reached the summit of Mt. Rainier today.  They were descending from the crater rim just after 7 am.  RMI Guide Dominic Cifelli reported a beautiful day with a little breeze and great route conditions.  The team is descending to Camp Muir where they will take a short break, repack their gear and continue the final 4,500' descent to Paradise. Their program will conclude this afternoon with a short celebration at Rainier BaseCamp.

Hello from Cusco!

We made it. Though “made it” is a relative term for a group that survived delayed flights, rebooked tickets, and enough all-night travel to qualify as its own endurance event. But every duffel and every human is here, upright, and (mostly) coherent. We’ll take it.

Today’s whole job was: recuperate. And that we did. Some wandered the streets a bit, some rested and most of us consumed our first coca and muña teas. Definitely not our last.

Then this afternoon we gathered for our first team meeting — introductions, the shape of the next 10 days, and the buzz of a team coming together.

Cusco is not a city you see, it’s a city you feel. With its narrow cobblestone streets, worn smooth by about a thousand years of foot traffic. Terracotta pots hang off white walls. Immovable gray stone sits shoulder to shoulder with European facades, and somehow none of it argues with the other. Then color just erupts everywhere it can: pinks, blues, greens, color forever.

We closed the day with our first team dinner. Authentic Peruvian — lomo saltado, osobucco, potatoes and corn galore. (Nom nom nom, no notes.)

Ten days, one incredible crew, and Salkantay and Machu Picchu waiting on the other side. We’re just getting started.

The Four Day Climb July 16 - 19 led by RMI Guide Mike Haugen reached the summit of Mt. Rainier this morning.  The teams enjoyed some time on top before starting their descent from the crater rim around 7 am.  Climbers will return to Camp Muir for a quick break then they repack and continue the final 4.5 miles to Paradise. Their program will conclude this afternoon at Rainier BaseCamp with a celebration ceremony.

Tuesday, June 16, 2026 - 11:11 pm PT

As expected, today was a busy one.  We talked over our priorities and strategies. We sat with the National Park Service rangers for our required orientation.  We dialed personal gear, group gear and food quantities.  We packed and prepped and checked our systems.  Then we went into town, relaxed and ate pizza.  We are ready. We hope to fly in first thing tomorrow morning.

The Four Day Climb led by RMI Guides Mike King and George Hedreen turned around shortly after departing Camp Muir early this morning due to high winds. According to RMI Guide Mike King, wind gusts reached up to 70 mph.

The team has begun its descent and is expected to return to Rainier Basecamp in Ashford, Washington, early this afternoon.
