Mt. Rainier: Expedition Skills Seminar - Emmons Team Summits

The Expedition Skills Seminar Team, led by RMI Guide Dustin Wittmier, reached the summit of Mt. Rainier today via the Emmons Glacier.

Over the past week, the team has been training on the upper slopes of Mt. Rainier, honing a variety of advanced alpine techniques. Today, they put those skills to the test and successfully climbed to the top of the mountain.

The team will spend one more night at Camp Schurman before descending and returning to Rainier Basecamp tomorrow afternoon.

Congratulations to the entire team on a successful summit!

The Four Day Climb June 23 - 26 led by RMI Guide Joe Hoch, reached the summit of Mt. Rainier a little before 7 am today.  Joe reported a light cloud cap on the summit, light to moderate winds from the west and cloud deck below near 9,000'.  Despite a bad weather forecast they were greeted with a perfect morning! The team enjoyed a bit of time in the crater before starting their descent from the crater rim around 7:45 am.  The team is now en route to Camp Muir where they will make a quick stop to rehydrate, refuel and repack before continuing down to Paradise later today.

Nice work team!

I’m so thankful to have met and climbed (to Muir) with this group of people. There was so much positivity and honesty amongst this group of strangers. It was inspiring to watch each person climb and battle their way to the summit and back. RMI’s guides are beyond impressive. The strength you all posses is incredible. To do what you do AND be personable AND lighthearted is truly a gift. I cant say enough about all the things you had to juggle to make this trip a success. Thank you to everyone for making this one of the greatest experiences of my life.

Mt. Rainier: Grom, O’Brien Summit With Five Day Climb Crew

The Five Day Climb August 30 - 3 September led by RMI Guides Casey Grom and Drew O'Brien reached the summit of Mt. Rainier this morning.  The team first checked in at 7:30 am from 13,300' on their ascent.  They reported good climbing and clear skies.  A little after 10am they let us know they had reached the summit, enjoyed some time in the crater and now were starting their descent from the crater rim.  The teams will return to Camp Muir in a few hours and get to rest, relax and enjoy some time on the mountain. Tonight they will spend their second night at Camp Muir, but they will get to sleep until a reasonable hour, not an alpine start.  They will descend the remaining 4,500' to Paradise tomorrow and end their program with a small celebration.

Congratulations to today's climbers!

Mt. Baker: Geiser & Team Reach Summit via Easton Glacier

Tuesday, August 27, 2024 - 2:54 pm PT

We have just completed our Easton Glacier climb of Mt. Baker August 25 - 27. We hiked up to Sandy camp on our first day, took a short break, and then got into skills training in anticipation of climbing on day 2 with a better weather forecast. After an early alpine start, we called the crater rim our high point due to snowpack conditions and deteriorating weather. After coming back down we practiced some anchor building and crevasse rescue before retreating to our tents due to rain. We managed to stay dry on Day 3 as we hiked back down to the trailhead and enjoyed a closing lunch as a team.
