Mt. Baker: Summit And Ski Team Enjoy Turns Despite the Weather

The Mt. Baker Summit and Ski Descent team led by RMI Guide Pete Van Deventer wrapped up their time on Mt. Baker today. The team took advantage of short periods of sun breaks to ski around Sandy Camp. Low clouds, snow, and poor visibility prevented the team from ascending too far out of camp. Pete reports great skiing and a happy team, making the most of their time on the mountain.

The Four Day Climb, September 27 - 30, enjoyed a beautiful sunrise this morning on Mt. Rainier. The group has descended from Camp Muir and will return to Rainier BaseCamp this afternoon. This is our final program for the 2019 Mt. Rainier season. Thank you for following along with our climbs!

North Cascades: Expedition Skills Seminar - Shuksan

The Expedition Skills Seminar - Shuksan Team has spent the last week in the North Cascades with one day spent on Mt. Erie learning basic rock climbing. And the remainder of the week on Mt. Shuksan to complete alpine mountaineering skills training. These techniques include anchor placements, various self and team crevasse rescue techniques, steep technical ice climbing, belays, rappelling, knots, route finding and fixed rope travel. The team then attempted the summit of Mt. Shuksan, but were forced to turn at the base of the summit pyramid due to poor rainy weather. The team is breaking camp and will be hiking to the trail head this afternoon. Congratulations to the Team on a great week of climbing!

Incredible experience!  We had a great team and fantastic leadership from the guides. I learned so much of the basic mountaineering skills needed for future climbs. Thank you RMI for an amazing trip!

Mt. Rainier: Gately, Parrinello and Teams Reach Summit

RMI Guides Steve Gately and Avery Parrinello led their teams up the Disappointment Cleaver route, which is in great condition. Weather today was a bit windy but didn't deter the teams. Climbers were descending from the crater rim around 8:20 AM en route to Camp Muir. Once back at Camp they will pack up their gear and continue down to Paradise. This afternoon they will have a celebration at Rainier BaseCamp to conclude their program. Congratulations to today's climbers.

I check these blog updates almost daily! I know RMI and Rainier have a lot of climbs throughout the season but it would be interesting for sure to write maybe a bit more of the Rainier climbs. Maybe a great story from a guide or climber that was told. A crazy food that was brought up on the mountain. Ask the guides who are working the climb to share a bit more. It could be Steves 10th Rainier summit or another important summit for another guide on the team. Food for thought from a lover of climbing blogs. Thank you

If this summit of Shuksan happened on July 22, 2019 between 9am and 10am, I have photos of 3 on the top.  I would like to share them. Quite amazing shots considering how far away I was. I was on the roadway leading to Artist Point. The Big Glass gets the results!
