Mt. Rainier: Four Day Teams Reach 11,900’

The Four Day Climb led by RMI Guides Mike King and Nick Scott reached 11,900' today on Mt. Rainier before route conditions forced them to turn. Mike reported clear and calm skies on the upper mountain with a marine layer coming in and out at 8,500'. They plan to depart Camp Muir, and be back at Rainier Basecamp early this afternoon. Congratulations to today's team!

Mt. Rainier: The Muir Seminar Finishes Their Training Week

RMI Guide Walter Hailes checked in this morning from Camp Muir. The Muir Seminar team is back from their summit bid. Due to unstable snow conditions, the teams turned after Ingraham Flats. The team had a mix of weather during their week-long seminar- some spectacular views and also some stormy weather of high winds and blowing snow. They learned a lot of mountaineering skills to take home with them after a week on Mount Rainier.

The Four Day Climb May 17 - 20 led by RMI Guides Elias de Andres Martos and Chris Ebeling reached the summit of Mt. Rainier this morning. Elias reported calm winds and overall good conditions from the summit. After enjoying a little time in the crater the climbers will return to Camp Muir and then continue their descent to Paradise. Congratulations to today's climbers!

Mt. Rainier: Four Day Climb Teams Unable to Climb

Due to wind and snow overnight the Four Day Climb teams led by RMI Guides Dave Hahn and Hannah Smith were unable to make a summit attempt this morning. The teams were safely tucked in at Camp Muir. Dave reported snow drifts of 12+ inches. The teams will return to Paradise later this morning.

The Four Day Climb led by RMI Guides Brent Okita and Bryan Mazaika reached 11,200' on Mt. Rainier today. New snow from the last few days and high avalanche danger kept the team from going any higher on the mountain. The team is back at Camp Muir and will start the descent to Paradise shortly. Congratulations to today's team!

Mt. Rainier: Expedition Skills Seminar - Muir had a Successful Week of Training

The Expedition Skills Seminar - Muir Team along with RMI Guides Adam Knoff and Walter Hailes had a successful week of training on Mt. Rainier. The team spent the week learning crevasse rescue, setting snow and ice anchors, route finding, avalance training, and many other alpine climbing techniques. The team was able to take several walks above Camp Muir, but the winter like weather kept the from the summit. The team is on the descent and will be back at Ashford Basecamp in the early afternoon today. Congratulations to today's team!

The weather seems to have changed its tune as of late and is cooperating with us nicely. Today was mostly cloudy with an occasion light snow shower and a light breeze. It was perfect for climbing up Ski Hill and continuing up the Kahiltna to 10,000' where we made a cache of food and fuel and gear. The glacier is in excellent condition and the traveling was smooth. Our team all did well today and we're now in position to move camp to 11,200', hopefully tomorrow. We'll let you know what shakes out, RMI Guide Mike Walter

RMI Guides Mike King & JT Schmitt led their summit climb teams to the summit of Mt. Rainier this morning. Mike reported cold temps and wind at the summit. The team descended from the crater rim at 8:00 am. They will continue their descent to Paradise today. We look forward to seeing them at Rainier BaseCamp this afternoon. Denali Expedition: Walter & Team Get Oh-so-Close, Return to Talkeetna

Sunday, May 12, 2019 Well, it was another day of waiting in Talkeetna for the weather to improve enough to fly into Kahiltna Base Camp. The FAA webcams looked socked in all day, but every once in a while some clearings would emerge. Finally, around 3 pm, we decided to round up the troops and don our climbing clothes and boots to be ready to board if a flight was possible. After a recon report from another K2 airplane on a scenic flight confirmed that it looked like we could land at Base Camp, we boarded the two Turbo Prop Otters and launched for the Alaska Range. A beautiful flight with partly cloudy skies took us all the way to Base Camp …but a small but thick cloud hung over the landing strip. We held in a waiting pattern for as long as we could and the conditions did not improve. Finally we regained our elevation and pointed back south for Talkeetna. An awesome flight, and oh-so-close. We’ll try again early tomorrow, with a more promising forecast. RMI Guide Mike Walter

Mt. Rainier: Four Day Summit Climbs Descend from Crater Rim

The Four Day Summit Climb Teams May 9 - 12, 2019 reached the summit of Mt. Rainier this morning. RMI Guide Brent Okita reported a windy and cold morning but with sunshine and clear skies. The teams began their descent from the crater rim around 7 AM. They will return to Camp Muir for a short break and to repack, then continue down to Paradise. We look forward to seeing them at Rainier BaseCamp later today. Congratulations to today's Summit Climb teams!
