Kilimanjaro: Team Checks in from Shira Camp

Hi from Shira Camp at 12,500 ft on Kilimanjaro. It's currently raining cats and dogs! We started the day under clear blue skies, had a great breakfast and were hiking by 8:30 in the morning. The clouds started to build at around 9:30 but we had sun breaks for our whole hike. The terrain was fairly steep right from the start but every one handled it well. The vegetation was very different from the lush rain forest we were in yesterday. As we gained altitude the fauna had a more alpine feel that corresponds to our high elevation. After we arrived at camp the cooks made a great lunch and while we were eating the rain started. It is nice to be in camp for it so we can rest and relax with the sound of raindrops on the tents. One of our climbers would like to say hello to Mrs. Price's second grade class. Thanks for following along with our climb. RMI Guide Seth Waterfall

Aconcagua: Gorum & Team Take a Rest Day At Camp Two

The team is all doing exceptionally well here at our new home at 18,000' on Aconcagua. The weather has been a bit unsettled, with scattered snow flurries and winds battering our tents throughout the day. This less than stellar weather has been a great excuse to hang out and rest to the best of our abilities, which is perfect because this will be our last rest day of the trip. Our plan is to make our summit attempt and hit a weather window in just a few days. We have done our time up high, and everyone is excited for the opportunity to show their stuff. For now, we're eating mac and cheese in the tents, and finishing off this relaxing day in style. Once we leave here, we will be on the go until we get back to Mendoza, so we're savoring the bit of down time that we have left. We'll check in from Camp 3 tomorrow. RMI Guide JM Gorum

Living vicariously thru you guys! Have fun and stay safe. I have a friend who departs for Aconcagua on the 29th of Jan. Any conditions or changes to the “norm” would be great! Cheers Patrick.

Kilimanjaro: Tucker & Team Finish Safari and Head Home

The loop is complete. We are back at the Arumeru Lodge after a whirlwind Safari. We had a fine night in the bush of Tanzania. In those remote tented camps with all of their creature comforts prepared us well for our last safari. A delectable breakfast started our way back out through the park. Cloud cover did not lend to animal cover since we once again were overwhelmed by the abundance of game to be seen. A whole pride of lions doing some snacking was a wonderful touch to send us on our way. Took about three hours of us having to put up with nice smooth pavement to get us here. Repacking, showers, and of course more food has the team in good shape for travels abroad tonight. The new stories from trips like these last a lifetime and we are all excited to get home and share them. RMI Guide Mark Tucker

Mt. Rainier: Four & Five Day Summit Climb Teams Turn at 13,500’

The Four Day Summit Climb June 4-7 led by RMI Guide Dave Hahn and the Five Day Summit Climb led by Pepper Dee were unable to reach the summit today due to high winds and deteriorating weather. Both teams ascended to 13,500' this morning but were forced to turn around due to weather. The teams will return to Camp Muir to re-pack and take a short rest before descending to Paradise. We look forward to seeing them at Rainier BaseCamp this afternoon.

Hello and congrats to all on the Hahn team. Outstanding “participation” on the climb and tremendous patience for putting up with the awkward sense of humor of a southern redneck. Y’all are forever in my memories! Thank you to the birthday girl Nikki, the leg model Solveig, and the man with the bed time stories Dave. Y’all took great care of us and are good folk to spend time on a mountain with! May the good Lord keep you safe on all your future expeditions!

Kilimanjaro: Tucker and Team Tour Tarangire National Park

Right now I'm watching a gigantic, large tusked elephant tearing apart an acacia tree just a few feet away from the porch of my stilted tent platform in the full moon light. Funny how a creature that large could literally sneak up on our digs for the night here at Kikoti camp, just outside Tarangire National Park. It has been another perfect weather day with just enough clouds and breeze to keep the bush land from being too hot. After an hour of driving we stopped for a tour of a Masai Boma. It's very interesting and always amazing to see the hearty souls living in the traditional style. Another hour put us in the park where we enjoyed just amazing landscape and crazy plant life. If that wasn't enough throw a couple thousand animals in the mix. We ended the day with a most flavorful bounty back at camp. Tomorrow we have another half day on safari in Tarangire as we make our way back to the Dik Dik. RMI Guide Mark Tucker & Team

Kilimanjaro: Tucker & Team Reach Camp One

Jambo from Kilimanjaro- We are checking in from Camp One, Machame Camp at 9,800' and everyone is doing great. We woke early this morning and had a nice breakfast at the Dik Dik. We loaded the vehicle and after a quick stop at the open air meat market we reached the Machame Entrance Gate at 6,000'. After some photos and the fun began as we started on the trail. Being a cloud forest it held true for most of the climb but now here at 10,000' the skies are clear and beautiful. We have clear views of the summit and associated glaciers and life is good here in the very comfortable dinning tent. Have a nice day, RMI Guide Mark Tucker
