RMI Guide Pete Van Deventer and the Four Day Mt. Baker - Easton Glacier July 15 - 18 team reached the summit at 3:15 pm today with 100% of their crew.  They enjoyed their time on the summit and will return to camp for their final night on the mountain.

RMI Four Day Climb teams reached the summit of Mt. Rainier around 6 am PT today.  The climb took slightly longer than it has been due to many climbers on the route this morning. RMI Guides Pete Van Deventer & Joe Hoch reported great conditions with clear skies, light breeze and nice cool temperatures.  The teams were able to spend about an hour on the summit enjoying the views and taking photos.  They began their descent from the crater rim shortly after 7 am.  Once back at Camp Muir the teams will take a short break and repack their gear for the final 4.5 mile hike down to Paradise.

RMI's Four Day Climb teams for July 1 - 4 led by RMI Guides Pete Van Deventer & Mike King reached the summit of Mt. Rainier this morning at 5:40 am.  Pete reported a nice day with light winds, really nice climbing conditions and a great route.  The climbs spent some time in the crater enjoying the views and getting all the photo ops.  They began their descent from the crater rim around 7 am.  Once back at Camp Muir they will repack and continue down to Paradise to conclude their climb.

We want to give a shout out to RMI Guides Henry Coppollilo and Leif Bergstrom who spent a long day on route work earlier this week and really worked hard to improve the route.  Thank you!

Congratulations to today's climber

The Mt. Rainier Summit Climb teams, led by RMI Guides Pete Van Deventer and James Bealer, were on the summit at 6am this morning. The weather had clear skies and a steady breeze of 15-20 mph. They are currently working their way back to Camp Muir.

The Four Day Climb June 22 - 25 reached the summit of Mt. Rainier this morning led by RMI Guides Pete Van Deventer and James Bealer.  The teams reached the crater rim at 5:30 am, they enjoyed clear skies and a light breeze during their climb.  The route remains in good shape and teams were making good time on their descent.  They were at 13,500' around 7 am heading back to Camp Muir.  They will enjoy a short break at Camp Muir to refuel and repack, then descend the remaining 4.5 miles and 4,500ft to reach Paradise.

The Five Day Climb teams led by RMI Guides Pete Van Deventer and Dan Windham reached the summit of Mt. Rainier last night.  Pete reported great route conditions and a beautiful day on the mountain.  The teams are now back to Camp Muir and will be descending to Paradise later this morning.

After several days of high winds and unstable snow conditions, the RMI Teams were greeted with light winds, clear skies and good route conditions.  RMI Guides Pete Van Deventer, Dan Windham and their Four Day Climb teams reached the summit of Mt. Rainier shortly after 7 am today.  The teams enjoyed some time in the crater getting all the photo ops before descending from the crater rim.

Thursday, June 3, 2021 - 10:27 am PT

We've waited through wind and snow for weeks and we finally got our shot. We woke up yesterday to clear skies and relatively (for 17k feet) warm temps in camp. We had stoves firing early, before sun hit camp, and got everyone up to start prepping. With breakfast done and packs loaded we stepped out of our sunny camp into the shadow of the Autobahn. It was a chilly couple hours crossing to Denali Pass and we were all psyched to get back into the sun. A slight, but cold 10mph breeze in our face kept it chilly all day, but we kept moving past Zebra Rocks, around Archdeacons Tower, onto the Football Field, up Pig Hill, and along the summit ridge to the summit! We were standing on top just after 6pm yesterday. With photos taken, we started working our way back down, well aware of the distance still to get back to the comfort of our sleeping bags. The long hours of sun help alot and we rolled back into camp around 11pm, just as the sun left camp. Tired, chilly, sore, but excited that we managed to reach our goal!

We'll start working our way down the mountain today, back to warmer temps, more oxygen, and a flight back to Talkeetna. They tend to be long days, so dispatches might be short, but we are headed home.

Happy June 1st! It doesn't feel like it much here at 17K. We missed sending a dispatch last night because of some electronic technical difficulties that are resolved, but you should have heard via RMI Alaska Team led by Mike Walter that we all moved to 17K yesterday on a perfect day. It was relatively warm, calm, sunny, and as we were the first few teams out of camp, were able to move smoothly up the fixed lines and along the West Buttress.

We had hopes of going for the summit today, but the chance of snow that often only brings precip to the lower mountain defied that hope overnight and into today. We've got 3 to 4 inches of new snow in camp, still snowing, low vis, and just enough wind to move it around at maximum efficiency. It was a pretty easy call to stay in the tents today and ride it out, hoping that tomorrow brings clearer conditions.

Both RMI Denali Expeditions led RMI Guides Mike Walter and Pete Van Deventer made it to High Camp today at 17, 200'. We are busy melting snow and making hot water for dinner. If the weather is good, we hope to go for the top tomorrow.
