Mt. McKinley: Jones & Team Descend to 11,000’ Camp

June 16, 2015 6:05 pm PT We arose to wind and a bit of ominous clouds at 17,000'. The team efficiently packed our camp to start the long decent back to our families and friends. After 6,000' of decent with a stop to gather our kit stashed at 14,000' and a wonderful quesadilla snack from Jake's team we have landed for some chill time. This is the life! We're at the beach of 11,000' camp soaking our battered feet in the sun soften snow. While puffing our sleeping bags over our tent flies which is conveniently shading us in our cabanas as we get some well deserved rest for the final push to Base Camp early tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed we will fly off to civilization tomorrow! Not that there are no other people to socialize with up here on Denali. Our team has done one heck of an awesome job and we have all created some great friendships! If all keeps going our way our next post will be the last from little Talkeetna, AK with a great evening of celebration! RMI Guide Tyler Jones

Glad to hear the day went so well!!!
David and Mark, I know you were both in great shape but everyone must be exhausted by now….blessings for health and safety to all as you continue to descend. Won’t be long now till you trade your hiking boots for dancing shoes at Chris and Kelsey’s wedding.  Can’t wait to see pictures and hear the stories of this great adventure.

Love and prayers, Mom & Dad Dreher

Mt. McKinley: Beren & Team Enjoying Rest Day at 14 Camp

June 16, 2015 3:18 pm PT Yesterday our team made a carry to 17 Camp. Leaving early, we avoided the crowds and enjoyed one of the more beautiful days the Buttress could serve up. Spectacular views from the Kahiltna to the tundra kept us company all day long and we really got a great sense of our surroundings. Now we are all set to capitalize on the next weather window and move up! Until then the team is enjoying a well earned rest day here at 14 Camp. RMI Guide Jake Beren

Mt. McKinley: Jones & Team Team Check in from 17 Camp After Summit

June 15, 2015 11:27 pm PT Some great timing, a bit of luck, and our mountain skills payed off! The team woke early to a blustery morning, had a breakfast of oatmeal and coffee and prepared our warm weather clothing and climbing equipment. We then delayed about an hour to see if the wind would lighten up and the Sun's solar rays would help the cool nip of the early morning air! We set out on our summit attempt at 9 am and headed off to the shady slopes of the Autobahn which are the slopes that lead to Denali pass at 18,200 ft. The wind was still gusty, but relatively warm temps (about 10 degrees) allowed us to keep the digits warm and continue traveling upward. Then beyond the pass we enjoyed full on sunshine as the wind slowly diminished to a light breeze. Smooth traveling on the upper slopes accompanied by a perfect day put us on the summit around 4:00pm. Stellar views of the lower slopes of Denali and the rest of the Alaska Range were enjoyed by all. After plenty of photos and high-fives we spun around and made the return trip to camp. After a quick dinner and hot drinks everyone is is tucked away in their tents enjoying some rest after a hard days work. Great work today team! RMI Guide Tyler Jones

Way to go Daddy!  That’s awesome—I guess the third time is a charm. Mommy’s car said that it was 107 here today.  It is so freaking hot. Hope you make it home before I go to New York in a week. We sang for the Raleigh City Council today.  I think it was on TV.

Congrats DG! The highest point in the continent.  Say, I just had an absolutely brilliant idea…billable feet!  ;)

Mt. McKinley: Haugen and Team Establish Camp at 11,200’

June 15, 2015 10:20 pm PT We woke up early to beautiful weather. After a quick breakfast and packing session, we were headed up glacier towards our next camp at 11,200 ft. We made great time with our strong crew and found a partially dug out camp. We proceeded to make it an RMI quality camp. Since we arrived into camp early and had most of the day to work, we decided to go big. Instead of stairs leading down into our cook tent, we decided to make a large tunnel through the side of the hill as our entry way. It turns out you have to move a bunch of snow to make a six foot entry tunnel. RMI 7 "El Siete"

Here’s some poetry for today—your icy, snowy environs led me to read Robert Service (I know, wrong location). Two lines from his poem “Comfort”,about things always looking up:
“Earth so smiling ‘way out yonder,
Sun so bright it dazzles you”
Hope the sun is dazzling you, Brian, and all of El Siete!

A huge congrats to you and the team, Ken. You are a man of your word—you said you were going to do Denali and you did—all the way to the top—20,320 feet—WOW! A colossal achievement. Cheers to you and the team from hapless Hollis.

Mt. Rainier: Climbing Teams on the Summit!

The Five Day Summit Climb led by RMI Guide JJ Justman along with the Four Day Summit Climb led by Leon Davis reached the summit of Mt. Rainier this morning. After spending some time on top enjoying the views both teams began their descent from the crater rim shortly after 7 AM. JJ reported that it was “an absolutely beautiful day”. Once the teams return to Camp Muir they will have a brief stop and then continue their descent to Paradise. We look forward to seeing them at Rainier BaseCamp later today. Congratulations to today's Summit Climb Teams!

Mt. McKinley: Haugen and Team Establish Camp 2

June 14, 2015 10:58 pm Hi friends and family! Team Haugen continues to make strong moves up here. Today we got a bright and early start, broke camp, and made short work of Ski Hill en route to Camp 2 at 9,600 feet. Upon arrival, the boys of "El Siete" enthusiastically dug what may be the burliest camp ever to grace the slopes of Denali, then harvested the fruits of their labor by way of a long half day of relaxing, napping, and eating truly preposterous quantities of Mac and cheese. We're all excited for a move up to 11 camp tomorrow. And now, for the more literary inclined followers, please enjoy a summary of the day's exploits in haiku: Bright and early start, Solid work on frozen slopes, Camp 2 chilling, FUN!
