Mt. Rainier: July 26th Update

The Four Day Summit Climb teams led by RMI Guides Adam Knoff and Solveig Waterfall reached the summit of Mt. Rainier early this morning. The teams reported warm temperatures with winds at about 15 mph.  They spent over an hour on the summit enjoying the views before beginning their descent back to Camp Muir.

After a week of Denali Prep training, Mike Haugen and the Expedition Skills Seminar – Kautz team also reached the summit of Mt. Rainier early this morning with 100% of their team. They have started their descent and will be back at Rainier Basecamp this afternoon.

The American Lung Association Climb for Clean Air is ascending to Camp Muir today with Win Whittaker as their lead guide.  He sent us a photo of the team’s climbing school from yesterday.  What beautiful weather the teams have been climbing in!

Mt. Rainier: Teams on the Summit - July 18, 2013!

RMI Guide Win Whittaker and his team of climbers with the Climb for Clean Air in support of the American Lung Association of the Mountain Pacific reached the summit of Mt. Rainier this morning. The Four Day Summit Climb July 15 - 18 led by Elias de Andres Martos reached the summit also.  The skies are clear above with warm temperatures.  The teams enjoyed some time on the summit before starting their descent.  The teams will stop at Camp Muir then continue their descent to Paradise this afternoon.

The Expedition Skills Seminar - Paradise has enjoyed several days training on the mountain.  Yesterday, the team practice their crevasse rescue techniques (see photo below).  Today they will ascend to Camp Muir for some additional training.  They will make their summit attempt early tomorrow morning.

Mt. Rainier: Four Day Climbs Reach the Summit!

The Four Day Summit Climb teams led by RMI Guides Win Whittaker and Jake Beren reached the summit of Mt. Rainier early this morning.  The teams reported clear skies, light winds and pleasant temperatures. They began their descent from the crater rim after 7 a.m. PT.  The teams will return to Camp Muir (10,060’) for a short break and then continue down to Paradise (5,400’) this afternoon.

RMI Guide Kel Rossiter and the Expedition Skills Seminar – Emmons team called from Camp Schurman.  They reported good conditions and great weather. The team made their summit attempt today and reached 13,500’ but decided to call that their high point and return to camp.  The team will spend tonight on the mountain with some additional time for training.  They will break camp tomorrow morning, descend to the trail head and return to Rainier BaseCamp in Ashford in the late afternoon.

Mt. Rainier: July 3, 2013 SUMMIT!

The Five Day Summit Climb Team led by RMI Guide Andres Marin reached the summit of Mt. Rainier early this morning. The Four Day Summit Climb Team led by RMI Guide Win Whittaker had a great climb but were unable to reach the summit.  The teams reported clear skies, some light winds, and pleasant temperatures.The teams are on their way to Camp Muir and will be back at Rainier Basecamp to celebrate this afternoon.

After a successful summit yesterday and a week of training the Expedition Skills Seminar - Emmons will be returning to Rainier Basecamp this afternoon.

Mt. Rainier: June 25th Update

The Five Day Summit Climbs June 21 - 25 led by Seth Waterfall and Win Whittaker were unable to reach the summit of Mt. Rainier today.  The teams climbed to 10,500’ before deciding to turn around due to snow conditions and high winds. 

The Five Day Kautz Climb led by Adam Knoff moved up to their High Camp at the western edge of the Turtle snowfield between 9,400’ - 10,500’ yesterday.  They will spend today training at the Castle. 

The Expedition Skills Seminar - Emmons led by Billy Nugent arrived at Inter Glacier yesterday afternoon.  They will be moving to Camp Schurman today.

Expedition team…..missed having a blog from you today! (6/26) Hope things are going well and you’re having a great climb despite the weather.  Looking forward to seeing you soon.  Love you…..

Mt. Rainier: June 22, 2013 Summit!

The Four Day Summit Climb Teams Led by RMI Guides Brent Okita and Walter Hailes called as they reached the Summit of Mt. Rainier at 6:59am this morning.  The teams have clear weather with light winds, but cold temperatures.  They spent some time on the summit before starting their descent back to Camp Muir.

RMI Guide JJ Justman’s team was awarded with a beautiful day of climbing up to Camp Muir. The team is keeping their fingers crossed for good weather tomorrow morning!

What an awesome journey you have just completed. Walking by the full moon in the wee hours of the day to stand on top of the world must have been exhilarating and inspiring. Your hard work was admirable as you put your energy into reaching your goals. I bow gently in respect for all of you. Now…What’s next?

Mt. Rainier: August 8th Summit!

Our Four and Five Day Summit Climb Teams reached the summit of Mt. Rainier early this morning. RMI Guides Pete Van Deventer and Win Whittaker reported clear skies above 7000’ and winds at about 40mph.  They have started their descent and are now en route back to Camp Muir.

Mt. Rainier: August 6th Summit!

RMI Guide Billy Nugent led the Four Day Summit Climb August 3 - 6 to the summit of Mt. Rainier this morning.  The teams reached the summit crater around 7:20 a.m. and reported light winds and good conditions.  The Five Day Summit Climb August 2 - 6 led by Gabriel Barral was also on top.  Both teams began their descent just after 8 a.m. 

The Expedition Skills Seminar - Emmons will be moving to their high camp (Camp Schurman 9,440’) today.  They will continue their training this afternoon and ready for their summit attempt tomorrow morning.

Mt. Rainier: August 5th Update

The Mt. Rainier Summit Climb led by Mike Haugen reached the summit in hot weather and no wind.  The team departed the crater rim at 8 a.m. Once the team is at Camp Muir, they will regroup and continue their descent to Paradise.

JJ Justman and his Expedition Skills Seminar - Emmons are driving to White River to begin their four days on the Camp Schurman/Emmons Route.

Well done Mike!  I hope you guys had as great a trip as we did!

Mt. Rainier: July 28th Summit!

RMI Guides Win Whittaker and Seth Waterfall topped Mt. Rainier in very calm winds and beautiful skies.  The teams checked in at 7:15 a.m. and had already began their descent from the crater rim. With the cloud layer just below Paradise, they have been enjoying the view since sunrise and the weather should stay in their favor as the sun continues to shine upon them.
